Terminal Pet Photos | Shayna & Seguin!

These terminal pet photos, like these with Shayna and her sweet boy, Seguin, are so difficult to do and yet so rewarding. Celebrate Life sessions are something that I do for free for families who have a pet that is elderly, terminal, or otherwise at the end of their life. It’s a chance to get photos of you with your beloved animal doing, well, anything you like. Some families spend the session spoiling their pet at home, letting them do all of their favorite things and just snuggling them. Some take them for a nice outdoorsy walk, letting them sniff anything and everything. It’s an opportunity to get some nice photos of you with your best friend before they pass on. I started doing them after we lost two family dogs — my sister-in-law’s and my brother’s — within just a few weeks of each other. Neither of them had gotten past 3 years of age and it was devastating to lose them so tragically. With my brother’s pup, a sweet Boston terrier, we knew he was going to be put down — he had a recurrence of terminal cancer — so I took some photos of them in their apartment the night before. It was so painful to see them all in such heartbreak, but they were happy to have the photos later to look back on. That’s my goal — that as tough as it is in the moment, it’s worth having the memories documented. Shayna knew her pup, Seguin, also had terminal cancer and would be put down that week, so she was spending a few days doing all of his favorite things and getting him all of his favorite foods! She stopped by my house and we did some sweet photos in the yard. 🙂 He was such a gentle, loving boy.
