What Should I Wear to My Boudoir Session? | Maine Boudoir Photographer

What should I wear to my boudoir session? I hear this question ALL the time, both from people who have booked me for a boudoir session and people who are hopeful and curious to maybe book one in the future. It’s a great question with a complicated answer because honestly? You can wear ANYTHING YOU WANT. There are absolutely no rules as far as I’m concerned, but I know how overwhelming that freedom can be, so I thought I’d offer some inspiration in the form of outfits some of my past clients have worn!

Ultimately, all I care about is that you feel GOOD in what you wear. You’ve got 60-90 minutes for your session which means you have time for a few outfits (I recommend 2-5 total), so feel free to really mix it up and show your different selves. Do you need to go out and buy all new clothing or lingerie? Definitely not — I guarantee you have things in your drawers right now that you love and feel sexy in (though buying something new can be super fun and self-esteem boosting in itself). Do you even need to necessarily wear “lingerie” to your session? Nope! Bring a dress that makes you feel like you’re flaunting every curve, or a sweater that brings out your cozier side, or those short shorts you cut yourself from your favorite jeans that ripped. Bring your favorite leather jacket, those knee-high socks that make your calves look awesome, or that pair of combat boots that make you feel like you could kick the entire world’s ass. Or maybe you DO love lingerie! Bring your laciest, frilliest, girliest romper. Or maybe you’re more of a vintage lover, opting for seamed stockings and a birdcage veil. Maybe you love all things latex and want to bring your handcuffs and whip along, too. A favorite worn-in t-shirt, a holographic rainbow mini skirt, a bra that has watermelons all over it — I’m not exaggerating when I say the sky’s the limit! Figure out what makes your heart sing, what makes you feel the most confident and sassy, and bring it!

Maybe you love black fishnets worn up high on your waist. Or you want to bring a sheer hat for some closeups. Or contrast your lingerie with a cozy flannel shirt.

A robe can be an outfit all on its own, either slightly open in the front or off-the-shoulder!

Wear some lacy panties and NOTHING on top at all! Cover up a bit more with a sheer dress made of black lace. Bring your nerdiest, most awesome t-shirt.

Wear your strappiest, sexiest lingerie. Go to the beach (or ANYWHERE) and rock your favorite bathing suit! Or go with super simple black and let your tattoos be the star.

Rock some space buns with a strappy bra and lacy undies! Pretend like you’re a rich heiress in a sumptuous fur coat. Wear something strappy AND lace that contrasts against your tattoos.

Go ultra classy with a slinky black dress and pearls. You could go for a skirt and your favorite striped top. Or accessorize with a badass jacket.

Hell, bring your true love along in the form of PIZZA. Show off some sassy red lingerie under a flowy black lace top. Wear a goddamn CAPE like the goddess that Nicole is (in the snow if you’re feeling extra brave).

Go with a high-neck bra and matching lacy undies. Or high-waisted undies and a matching lacy bra! Or go ALL OUT in a corset and dramatic tulle skirt and just have fun with it.

Pair a completely see-through shredded top with a black tulle skirt! Be an ICON like bee and stomp around in combat boots and a fishnet bodysuit. Or go with a gorgeous halter lace top.

Go for a one-piece like Eliza did with flesh-toned fishnets underneath. Wear black jeans and a black leather jacket with a sexy bra peeking out. Bring your favorite instrument — heck yes, even an accordion! — and serenade me while I take photos.

Maybe you love that purple bra that goes so well with your skin tone? Wrap yourself in a string of Christmas lights. Or wear something bold and RED with heels!

Honestly, anything that makes you feel like YOU — or maybe makes you feel like someone else for a couple hours, if that’s your thing — is fair game. I hope this post, and these photos, have helped you see that sexy has endless definitions and representations.
