Fall Family Session in Portland, Maine | Sue & James!

I loved meeting Susan & James for their family session with their son, Jackson! We met up by East End Beach in Portland, Maine, and we managed to get some photos with the most perfect fall foliage!

The day we took their family photos was super chilly so the mini session they had booked me for ended up being the perfect length. I offer both regular sessions and mini sessions, with the minis being just 30 minutes long. They can be a great option for simpler portrait sessions (like couples or head shots), but they are also beneficial during times of the year when the weather may be on the colder side and you don’t want to spend much time outside! We got lucky that Jackson was a pretty happy baby for the session. As long as he was being snuggled he was good to go, which made for some really cute family photos (his adorable hat with the ears helped, too!). 🙂

Family Portrait Session in Falmouth, Maine | Liza & Aaron!

I had so much fun with these two families! Liza hired me to photograph both her family and her sister, Nancy’s, family. It was such a fun opportunity for everyone — especially the kids, but the adults, too! — to spend some time together at Liza and Aaron’s home in Falmouth, Maine.

Relaxed family sessions like this are my favorite. We still get some of the more standard photos, but there’s a definite focus on more candid moments. It allows the kids in particular to feel relaxed and like they can have fun and be themselves! I also feel that doing sessions like these at the clients’ homes can add a whole other level of comfort. There are plenty of practical reasons why this benefits everyone — there are toys on hand, access to changes of clothing if necessary, snacks if the kids get hungry, no need to pile everyone in the car or worry about parking, etc — but there’s also the more intangible benefit of feeling the most like yourself when you’re in your space! The more relaxed and happy everyone feels, the more it will show in the photos, so that is always a huge plus!

Not to mention the fact that if you do a family session at your home, you will always have photos in that happy place in case you ever move to a new house (or a new state!). Looking back at photos of you playing with your kids, hugging your sister, or snuggling with your partner in the yard you spent so much of your time is something that just can’t be duplicated at a park or beach!

This is just the first of two sessions they hired me for — part two will be coming soon! 🙂
