This is Liz & Joe! Liz got in touch with me almost exactly a year before their wedding. When I heard they were getting married in Millinocket, I was immediately interested — I’d never been, but I have always heard about its beauty! Liz grew up in Maine and spent many summers at her family’s camp near Millinocket. Her and Joe met after college in Massachusetts, where he grew up and where they are living now. She didn’t have many details to give me — just that they were very laid back and mostly looking to have a fun, relaxed day with their family and friends. There’s nothing better than that! They celebrated at the New England Outdoor Center, which is now one of my FAVORITE venues in Maine. They offer lodging, white water rafting, snowmobiling, wildlife tours, hiking fishing — you name it. They also have an excellent restaurant right in the middle of everything — River Drivers Restaurant, who catered Liz & Joe’s wedding — as well as a pub. A ton of their family and friends stayed in cabins right on-site — literally feet from the ceremony spot and reception tent — so it was super convenient. It ended up being a cloudy, overcast day… but it all worked out in the end. Their ceremony and formals were taken care of — it didn’t actually rain until later, so they had perfect, diffused light and no sun in their eyes. It did end up DOWNPOURING during the reception — a couple times, actually — and it got pretty muddy inside, but I think it just added to the fun! After that, the clouds opened up for THE MOST amazing sunset (and finally, a view of Katahdin!). It was awesome. 🙂
